Here are my initial thoughts on Sportcross ownership after a whopping two hours and driving and 18 hours of ownership, and coming to grips with owning a car that is *nice*
Item 1: unfavourable insurance premium
Rebuttal: ... Sportcross.
Item 2: premium fuel only
Rebuttal: Sportcross!
Item 3: timing belt service
Rebuttal: SPORTCROSS!
Item: 4: I’m not used to such luxury
Rebuttal: OH MY GOD I’M NEVER GOING BACK
Item 5: automatic
Rebuttal: don’t care because I got 6 cylinders for the first time and I love It!
Item 6: Is300 waxy dash material
Rebuttal: I get to look at this gauge cluster every day
Item 7: I’m still not used to splurging on myself
Rebuttal: I’ll be sure to do even more!!!
Thanks for reading.

That’s awesome. Still keeping the longbed, right?
![]() 07/31/2017 at 15:11 |

The only thing you’ll regret is putting it off for so long.

I remember sitting in an IS at the Autoshow when they were new and drooling over that gauge cluster.

I doubt if there’s a pill for that.

I just got my first insurance bill after buying the TSX. I was, uh, shocked.

Love it! I’d trade my 9-2x for a sportcross in a heartbeat! Good find there!

A buddy just bought an IS300 sedan and seeing it reminded me how much I loved these and what nice cars they still are.

It all worked out because there are NEVER any Sportcrosses for sale locally. I found two in Pierce county in two years and both had rebuilt titles.
![]() 07/31/2017 at 15:16 |

Nice! I missed the purchase post. Congrats on the Sportcross. I really like them.

For the dash I’m wondering if it’s years ArmorAll and neglect that’s giving it a waxy look/feel. I’d recommend using an All Purpose Cleaner that’s diluted for interior use (usually 20:1) and a microfiber cloth to get out the grime then finishing up/Maintain with some Meguiar’s Ultimate Interior Detailer https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G16216-Ultimate-Interior-Detailer/dp/B00G49DUJY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501528501&sr=8-1&keywords=meguiars+ultimate+interior+detailer
Usually can be found in Autozone or Napa for $6-$8 a bottle and should easily last you a long time. It will provide a low gloss sheen and should make the material feel nicer to the touch.

Is yours a rebuilt title?

Once you go luxury you never go back.

And you still have a tape deck. Pretty fancy. Also love that gauge cluster.

Soooo many buttons and functions to learn, you’ve never had buttons and functions before!
Great looking car btw, always loved the look of them.

Heretic. Blasphemer.
I bought a ‘99 Camry and hated it so much that I sold it and bought an ‘89. I am running out of things to replace on the ‘89, but it’s still going strong. That car is everything it was ever cracked up to be.

Good looking car, and I’ve always liked those gauges... although I just noticed the “km/h” and “MPH” are upside down compared to the numbers and it will forever bother me now

Thanks! Because it is damn nasty right now. Hard to tell what’s a legitimate scratch vs what’s just more gunk.

That gauge cluster is so awesome! So the blue barn has to go now?
![]() 07/31/2017 at 15:41 |

Yep. I bought the nice car before the garage expansion, and I am NOT selling the longbed

I have a tape adaptor for my 14 year old ipod, it’s Jimmy Eat World time!

Can you pull the plaid seats out and keep them for funsies?
![]() 07/31/2017 at 15:44 |

Has the I-6's thirst bled you dry? I keep telling myself that every time I wonder why I never bought an IS300.

Wish you were closer to NYC I would love to detail this car.

The fuel economy is gonna hurt, but I have a company vehicle for a commuter so this is purely recreational.

What are your favorite “toys” on the new purchase?
![]() 07/31/2017 at 15:46 |

Seller could have squeezed more out if he sprang for a detail. I’m virtually certain I’m just gonna pay someone else to do it. So many crevices...

I would love to, but it’s still too nice to disassemble... If I didn’t get the money I wanted for it, I could take what I want and just junk it but that feels like a crime.

AND NOW YOU MUST COMPLETE THE CIRCLE WITH A 2JZ TURBO SWAP. DO NOT DENY YOUR DESTINY, ZOIDBERG.

Good point, I never see these, and even most of the sedans are modified a bit too much for people over 25, or are thrashed (or both).
Is the fuel economy gauge a vacuum setup, or controlled by a computer?
Aftermarket grille?
![]() 07/31/2017 at 15:58 |

sorry
![]() 07/31/2017 at 15:59 |

Easy solution, deal with it. Luckily, this isn’t the warmest area.
![]() 07/31/2017 at 15:59 |

Aftermarket grille (I think I will find a factory one), don’t know about the fuel economy gauge but I can tell you it’s extremely inaccurate

Yeah, I sorta wish I had A/C for my upcoming trip from BC to Toronto area.
![]() 07/31/2017 at 16:02 |

I did something similar at the office, pointing out how one of the light fixtures is 90 degrees off from every other fixture in the area, and now that’s all that anyone can see. Don’t ask me why I was staring at the ceiling - it must have been a slow day...

In my pickup it’s not so bad because I have 5 windows that open and a single cab. In my Tercel it’s a greenhouse, and in the Vibe, it’s cold but not powerfully so. The A/C in this though... it will chase you out of the car.

All those rebuttals and you never once played the “2JZ” card...

Congrats on getting something that combines practicality, looks, and rarity.
Pretty much everything you stated is what I went through when I got the VR. It’s simultaneously awesome and annoying.

I test drove an 06 IS350 as my potential new daily last week. I decided not to buy it because it’s too nice. My Mazda has a surprisingly nice interior, but the Lexus has heated & cooled seats and stuff like that. Plus it was fast, like unexpectedly fast.
However, staggered wheels in the rear so no rotating wheels (well, not the easy way anyway) and I’m sure I’d be going through them fast with how fun that thing was in a straight line. It didn’t have nearly as sharp handling as the Mazda though, which bothered me the most.
Annnnyway, congrats! I considered an IS300 before, might have to revisit that idea.

Why. Just Why. It had better be in the fall. That being said, T. is having a lovely cool summer. It has only been above 30 a few times!
![]() 07/31/2017 at 18:33 |

That is the cleanest IS300 I have ever seen. Let alone a sportcross
![]() 07/31/2017 at 18:39 |

I’m jealous I really like these and yours looks fantastic! Please do a write up of the timing belt if you do it, that would be pretty interesting to me.

Deal with it: move.

Negative on your prediction of season, I leave in a week! Toronto really has had some lovely weather.

Yeah that first nice car really gets into your head... three years in and I still occasionally say to myself “omg I have a BMW I can’t believe it”

If it varies wildly, it is probably an old style vacuum thing. MB did that for some time.

Has the Mrs. driven it yet? Any fear of your fun car getting swapped for the Vibe?
